Yeah something like this would be neat. Maybe not in owned houses as you still have to trek to these places. Somewhere centrally like a market but limit the number of npcs you can hire in the market. Doesn't have to be an npc. It can be a stall or bazaar.

 

I am currently playing RPG MO. Yes it's oldschool and dated graphics but it has some concepts that are appealing to me. The game is also retaining players around 100-200. I do not see why FRO cannot do the same provided it gets developed in a way that cater to the public domain i.e. PVE and crafting on PVE server, Arena contests for PVP server. I don't think you need to offer something unique or something dynamic to attract players.

 

There are offline games that have longevity. On adroid I play Dungeon Quest which is semi akin to games like Diablo nad path of exile. I believe people keep playing it to "farm" items or recipes. The farm doesn't get too grindy or tedious and is more fun than anything. FRO can offer something similar perhaps.

 

I understand it's all well and good me spouting all these ideas but It's Chris who does the hard work with game development. Having said that, I am more than happy to share my ideas for the PVE server with you Chris, if you would like them.

Some houses you buy could just function as a shop though. If you put a merchant in your home you wouldnt need to pay them like if you were to rent a space in town.

In PVE server that could work but like I said, you have a lot of travelling and time wasted just to get to houses which may or may not be occupied with a vendor. Convenience would make a better economy in the beginning. Perhaps once more players are playing, then the housing model can be implemented.

 

In PVP server, you may need to put a no pvp in houses or vicinity as to stop being "ganked". Being ganked may become a hindrance to your "shop" but then again why would you put protection on a full pvp server?

 

Also house rental becomes an issue. The server would require more houses. Also I can't remember if normal accounts can own a house? If normal accounts can't have houses, Chris would either have to remodel the account benefits or come up with an alternative.

Normal accounts cannot own a house no, and it sounds like you're super optomistic about the projected population! I'd put my merchant in a house since i'd also have a bank chest there, would make it very convenient.

Answer to that is simple - put a bank chest near the area of the market?

 

I believe you are the one being super optimistic - travelling to several houses which MAY or MAY NOT have a vendor is time consuming and inconvenience with a low population. Unless there is an ulterior motive of luring people to the houses to pvp them (Note: I am not accusing you of this Khor. I am merely stating something that is a possibility to happen with the housing model in pvp server.)

 

Besides, Chris hasn't really said any input. Probably best to wait and see what he has in mind.

I have been keeping up with this thread... Just holding my input for now on the topic of auction house/player shops. Both have certain alure that I like.

I always wanted to put NPC's in my house :D some basic merchants for supplies.

Since even the PvE server will have alignment, i doubt evil can go into good cities. So they'll have to do their shopping at player house merchants and vice versa.
