The loss of the stat point is not to your maximum faith. so you can assign back the point when you want. Since there is no max level it is not a big deal. I am likely going to be taking that penalty out with this next patch though to be honest. I have been thinking about it for some time and players already have to wait a day or two before switching allegiance which is likely a big enough penalty.
