Title: Dev Forge

About your news, and updates. Would it be possible that every news you make will also make you post a thread here on forum where we can discuss the current news?

I have a question about enchanting, will you add +25 start bonus on enchanting for merchants?

I will see if I can make the news go to the forums. It is a good idea.

In regards to enchantment starting bonus, honestly I havent given that aspect very much thought yet. I was just working on getting rings in and thinking for the 175 - 200 apprenticeship.

I dont like the aspect of homelands so that is something that I might look into changing in the future, I think it needs to be more flexable, since players wont nessecarily know which skill they want to focus on when they start the game.

Yes, choosing a special skill once you have reached 200 would be better than choosing it at character creation. Just display a warning that only one special skill can be chosen.

I rather think that a good hard quest should become available at 200, and when you finnished it you will be able to level that skill to 225. And maybe 3 skills or so will be possible to get to 225 on one character rather then just 1.
As a Blacksmith you want Mining aswell, and then another extra would be neat.

Also i think the starting towns for fighters are good, it gives you an special edge to something. makes you a little bit more unique

I like the idea of a piece of background data giving a stat boost. My main problem with the starting towns is that I have never been to some of them in the game. I started a ranger and I wanted the archery bonus so I picked the appropriate starting town. But I don't know anything about it other than an assumpiton that elves live there. I don't remember the exact name but it had elf or sylvan or some such word in it.

I also assume that the towns I have not seen are in areas of the map that we cannot travel to at the moment.

I think it would be a good idea to combine the current home town system with Zplinter's sugestion above. Picking a home town would give you a list of skills that you could pick from when you reach level 50. So, I would imagine game progression going something like this.

  1. Character creation - I start out as a rogue from Blacknook.
  2. Levels 1 to 50 - I experiment with different skills. Having to wait until level 50 means that I will have used at least 8 different skills (three starter + 1 every 10 levels) so I should know where I want to focus.
  3. At level 50 I have 3 skills or options to choose from based on my home town or as Zplinter suggested, a quest that I undertake:
    1. Blacknook
      1. Lock Picking +25
      2. Trap Disarming +25
      3. Trapping +25
    2. Den of Thieves
      1. Stealing +25
      2. Stamina + 3, Hiding +20
      3. Stamina +10
  4. Since I choose Black nook and I like trapping then I would choose Trapping +25. Or, if I choose Den of Thieves at creation and I don't favor any particular skill at level 50 then I could choose stamina +10 which would generally help me in most rogue skills. If quests unlock the options instead of home towns then you wouldn't pick a home town at creation; instead you would have to travel to a town in order to unlock the quest you want. For instance instead of choosing Blacknook or Den of Thieves at creation. I could travel to the two different towns while leveling to 50 find out which each one offers and choose either the Blacknook, Den of Thieves, or someother town's quest at level 50 (or later if I am still indecisive).

I like the idea of being able to take a bigger stat boost (+5 or more) in place of the +25 skill boost. I am not sure how all of that works out in maintaining game balance. But I have full confidence in Chris' reconciliatory skills.
