Title: Most Important Area Of Game To Improve?

All players are encouraged to comment on the simple question...

What is the single most important area of the game you feel needs improvement? (Please avoid stating graphics, we will not be going to full 3d anytime soon and this is also part of the nostalgic feel the game is intended to bring)

We want to know! This will help us focus our efforts.

Thanks

Chris

Wait....What? No full 3D with 800 trillion colors in 1080i and pixle shader 5 powered by Nvidia? What the hell? cheeky

Well, I need to put some thought into this one and since I will be playing tomorow night I will really think about it. I think you have a really good core game here Chris and every system you have in place is working very nicely. I personally enjoy fluff (cool clothing, Pets, stuff to save up money for and work towards) but I am sure thats not what you are getting at in this post and I am sure more fluff will make its way in game (and no matter what, its never enough =P)

I would say (at this moment) that every system you have in place and every idea that I have seen which is in game is very good but could be expanded upon. At this point you cannot really go wrong with anything you add into the game so long as you do not put too much focus into any one playstyle (i.e. only working on stuff for PvP)

Anyhow, I will think about it as I play during this week.

I have thought long and hard about this and here is my conclusion.

The biggest (and only) thing which is lacking  and needs improvement is in the economy. Its kind of a biggie too.

At present the player base does not support trade at all. Lots of good drops are vendored and lost and lots of mats are not sellable . We need an auction house or player vendors. There has got to be dynamic and fluctuating prices (a market game) and the ability to farm things to sell for profit. This would also keep people sporadically logging in to "check their auctions" and see what is up for sale.

If Auctions Houses are used- I beg you to make them local. For instance have 1 in brimstone and 1 in Faycrest but make them separate. This will give each a unique fell and reward folks who shop around.

I honestly feel this is crucial, Everything else in this game feels complete but there is a huge hole where the economic game should be. People like me enjoy "playing the market" and others enjoy just having a revolving stock of unique gear to bid for. Its win/win and keep people logged in more often and longer.

I think Player Vendors would be ideal- This could be something which would be an incentive to upgrade accounts- For instance, the first House you buy HAS to be a residence only, but your SECOND house could be designated as a shop. You would then get an NPC and could set what he buys (this could be done with mats only I understand. You would put a sample mat in his inventory and click Buy [input price]. For instance, Place a copper ore and set buy for 4 gold and he will show anyone browsing that he buys copper ore and will do so until his money is gone) this would be a huge reason for an Ultamite account or even 1 payment tier higher.

So are you asking for auction houses or player run shops? or both? If both, then what is the motivation to run a player run shop vs dumping things in the auction house.

Just one or the other - Mainly just a way to begin building an economy.

Both could be done , the motivation being that the convienence of an auction house (less shopping around) costs more money (i.e. A % of  both the buy and the selling price is taken for an auction fee where as there is no auction fee for vendors) but honestly I dont se the need to have both.

I would personally prefer player run shops but any idea or way to add the ability to buy/sell offline and to  even discover the overall average worth of materials would be great. As it stands nobody really has a clue what anything is "worth" unless it has an NPC price and selling vertain ores and such (or wanting to purcase them for crafting) is near impossible. A way to try to "buy low/sell high" and form an overall economy no matter how its achived is what I am suggesting (I just mentioned the two ways I have seen it done- There may even be others.)

Single most needed improvement in the game:

Buying from shops items, furniture, floors, windows, fences, plants that can be fully customizable (colors, patterns, material).  Once the player purchases something he or she must then head back to thier home.  A menu window will pop up upon entering everytime that shows these items.  The items can then be changed (colors, patterns, material) by a list menu the player can create of .jpeg image from destination folder on thier computer. Basically this all comes down to custimizable skins for creating home.

A built in player economy option in the home when a purchasing counter is placed in home would be great too. I would be the shop keeper of all items I find and I would set whatever price I want.  Prices would be determined based on a supply and demand curve of how players notice each others priices and stock amounts.

Other essentials for home:

- Ability to craft various lock types/difficulties for home door. The more difficult the lock the less chance someone can break into your house.  This would mean players would eventually have the chance to develop lockpicking skills but different classes would be limited in it's ability or not to break in.  Some classes would not be able to break simply because it's not thier specialty.

- Land expansion of ownership = 1 Block = 100 coins to build 1 square

- Wall creation.  1 Block = 100 coins to build side by side in any direction.

- Fence Doors Locks Complex /Difficulty Types = 1 Fence Door = 300 coins

- Sign On Home Door/Wall Where ONLY owner can leave community messages

- Ability To Create Farm Near Home If Out In The Open Away From Towns

- Ability To Build Jail In Home (players who do crime against player can be locked up there if caught inside home by owner) (Customizable Manual Time Option) (2 Hours Max) = will deter less players from being michevious

- Hidden Customizable Zones In Home (owner can purchase these hidden areas for 1000 coins each) (3 Max)

- Shared Barrel With Owner Granting Permission For Other Players To Leave Stuff Inside (Barrel Would Be Outside) (Only Players Granted Permission Can Open Them)

Conclusion:  Basically Customizable Home / Town Adjustments By Players Would Keep Environment More Dynamic & Changing In Evolutionary Patterns.  Players Would Feel Like Things Change Randomly All The Time & Sense Of Displacement Keeps Human Behavior More Realistic.

Player run shops for sure.  I want to make my Merchant feel like players want to come to me for the best prices and create a sense of culture / tavern and role playing in my area / home. Player unpredictability is more desirable.  Keeps everyone on thier toes and everything is random.

Too me it is actually content. There was only one mob to kill for large amount of gold, only one mob to fight for jewelry, one mob to fight for weapons that gave end game items and no mobs that I know of to kill for furnishing type of items.

With the introduction of ice cave level 2 the amount of end game mobs doubled which is really nice and I've yet to check out the stuff around faycrest. As well, over time, when more and more of the lands open up there will be a lot more stuff out there to fight for.

Oh and for the love of god don't do an auction house! I'm a old school fan of EQ and luclin's auction house just destroyed me when it came to getting rich. I always prefered meeting up with the other human being that had the item I wanted and traded with him. UO's merchants were pretty nice too since it was kind of like a find when you found something good or what you were after as well you got to see the players house something that is part of them.

Aye I think I have settled on player run shops rather than an auction house.
