Title: Classes and beginners guide

I should first state I haven't play rogue or ranger yet but I have played with just about all the skills and stats in the game as well as items so I'm very familiar with how the gameplay is.

Barbarian:

Probably the biggest sustainable damage dealer in the game. They gain the highest strength and stamina than any other class which allows them to hit for more damage and faster as well as they are the only ones to be able to get the Axe skill to 200 (215 if you choose Snowash Hold as your homeland). Axes are the best melee weapon in the game due to there high damage compared to there delay as well as having the highest armor penetration which doesn't show that much early game but becomes quite huge mid and late game. However, there damage comes from a great cost. They can only wear medium armor so they take a lot more damage if they're getting hit as well as they cannot get there concentration skill to 100 so they cannot rely on spirit for constant combat and have to go to a reverend to get it replenished1.  Due to taking such high damage from mid difficulty mobs Barbarians solo a bit slow compared to the ranger or knight that can use heavy armor. However, they do have the ability to use whips/flails so they can stay out of range of mobs (very useful against slow moving mobs) all the while attacking them. Since you only gain 1 extra range from mobs learning to kill this way does take some practice.  As well with there higher damage there slightly more proficient at killing casting mobs since they deal low melee damage but high burst damage with there spells so killing them faster makes you take less damage.

1 Spirit is used for prayer skill line which allows you to temporarily increase your stats, add 1-2 holy damage on your weapon for a couple of hits, and for a great cost heal your self. Or if you plan to go evil add 1-2 unholy dmg to your weaopn for a couple of hits, or adrenalin for extra damage a hit and the ability to drain life from melee attacks.

Knight:

The knight is one of the strongest characters in the game. With the use of plate mail armor they can take very little damage from most creatures in the game and even against other players. Which can be further improved with rings that decrease melee damage taken. They can solo most mid tiered mobs with out a problem taking very little damage all the while doing a moderate amount of damage back. They can gain very high faith and meditation as well as being able to get concentration to 100 allowing them to regain spirit over time thus making them very good grinding characters that can stay in a spot and constantly kill without having to go to a town or reverend for awhile. The knights downside is there damage. Early and mid game there melee damage is some what strong but on higher level mobs there damage slows down when your enemies start getting higher resistance. As well as plate amor really slows your attack speed down. On top of all that you usually want rings to reduce the damage you take so you loose out on attack speed/damage rings (you can still use them though).

Ranger:

Rangers are the only class in the game that can get 200 archery (or 220 if your homeland is Elvenhollow). Archery allows the user to attack from a longer range than your opponent making them one of the easiest soloing classes just a lot of clicking. Range is not there only benefit, with heavy armor and the ability to use swords they can tank and deal a moderate amount of damage. They also can get mundane magic to 75 so can use a moderate amount of magic combined with druidry they can survive through a lot even some pretty nasty spell casters. Although bows have low damage they can cast mundane magic inbetween hits for extra damage as well they can get the poisoning skill to 150 which greatly increase there damage output (can even be put on arrows). There downside is not really a master of anything. There heavy armor skill can only get to 100 and can only use chain armor instead of plate mail. Bows and swords aren't the highest damaging weapons. As well they can learn mundane magic but not white or black magic restricting them from the strongest spells.

Rogue:

I have never made a rogue but looking at there skills and talking to one I can say some things. There rogue only skill "stealing" allows them to look into the bags of other people and npcs, if successful you can take items from them (if you fail, a message will be braodcasted to all nearby people). There main weapon are the fast swords (daggers and curved blades) but can get whips/flails to 150 to be able to solo a bit better. They can get hiding and poison to 200 allowing them to kill mobs with not much fighting needed (attack till mob is poisoned, run around a corner, hit hide, wait till it dies). Only character that can get the dodge skill to 200 which helps out a lot when a creature or player is on you. Can get druidy but only to 50 so can only cast some of there spells with a low out come from them also can only get healing to 100 so in all they can't regenerate health very well in combat with these methods. However, rogues benefit a huge amount from going evil. Since they can get concentration to 100 they can constantly use adrenaline for extra damage a hit with lifetap for stealing life per hit which allows them to be very fiercesome in combat. My guess is in the beginning they're very hard to level up but once you get an abundant of stats and skills they can be very deadly in pvp.

Wizard:

The main spell caster in the game. Can cast the biggest and strongest spells in the game, however to do this they are required to pick an alignment to be able to use these spells (white or black magic). Be warned that wizards are the most expensive class to play, regeants are very costly. In the beginning it is very hard for a wizard to do much. You can't choose good/evil till level 5 so you can't use those types of magic till then as well as all your spells will do very little damage in the beginning. I found it better to go with a weapon skill first and after maxing that going into magic. Sadly this forces you to stay killing weaker mobs for a long time till your spells get up to par to deal damage, in the meantime you can use heal to keep on fighting (if you choose staffs you start with a wand that is etched with lesser heal that allows you to use the spell without regeants or knowing the spell it self, just costs mana). By the time you get to about 20 your spells will start doing a lot of damage and should have enough mana to be able to kill mobs with your spells with some down time inbetween. Wizards use a great amount of stats in order to be proficient, probably more than any other class. They need Knowledge and faith just to use spells, than they need int and meditaiton for the strength of there spells and regeneration of there mana/spirit, finnaly they need strength in order to survive a hit and to be able to carry there regeants if they want to stay in one spot for awhile. Mid to end game wizards do pretty decent damage probably the highest damagers but depending on how much burst they want to do determins how long they can keep it up as well as greatly rely on good rings to reduce the cost of there spells. They also are very good people to group with since they can heal you for a nice amount while fighting allowing you to take on much greater foes with a lot less downtime as well as many other type of spells such as lowering your opponents stats or increaseing your armor and many other utilitys.

Merchant:

The merchant class cannot attack and gains experience by doing work orders for npcs of the profession they want to level up. Basically merchants are gatherers and craftsman that can make weapons/armor/tools and more to come with the release of other merchant skills.

Merchant Guide: At the moment you start with a max of 25 skill points into your selected profession (or 50 if you also pick the town towards that profession). In order to be able to get it any higher you must do apprenticeships (given out by an npc that also gives work orders if he is skilled enough). Work orders and apprenticeships require you to make (or by some npcs gather) stuff and some times of a certain strength. Once you make those items drag and drop them onto the paper that is the work order or apprenticeship and if its the correct type and strength the item will disapear and remove it from the list, once everything is removed the paper will say complete and you turn it back into the person that gave it to you. Work orders want random items based on your crafting skill of that profession and your current gathering skills. If you get a work order you don't want just throw it on the floor and ask the npc for another and a new one will be given to you. Apprenticeships will always be the same.

Basic Start Guide:

After you choose your class you get to choose your phyiscal, mental and spirtual stats.

As a melee character I highly recommend putting all your points into stamina. Stamina increases your hit chance and increases your attack speed and health regeneration rate aaaand slightly increases your hp so its your biggest first stat to max out. Than for mental it doesn't matter too much you do here as long as you have 10 knowledge. For Spiritual you want to max out faith. Faith is one of the main influence on chance to hit, magic resist chance, and just about all your defensive skills.

As a wizard for physical put all points into strength, you'll greatly need the hp an carrying weight. For mental you will want 15 knowledge and rest into intelligence for mana regen and the strength of your spells. For spiritual you'll want to max out faith so you can use more spells sooner without having to put stats into it while leveling up.

Now that your done with stats it time to select your skills. At middle left of the screen is the list of all the skills and how high your class can get them, on the right is what your current skills are and there level. You'll start with a basic weapon skill and probably a healing skill and usually a useless skill. What you want to do is any skill thats not the weapon skill you want to use click on it and than click on the arrow that points to the left, this will get rid of the skill and give you a bunch of points back. Than with all your points max out your weapon skill. The weapon skill greatly increaes your chance to hit with that weapon and it should be the very first thing you max out as soon as possible. Once your ready click the next button.

Now on this screen you get to choose your characters skin color, outfit color, hair color, facial hair color, hair style, facial hair, and finnnaly a homeland which allows you to slightly modifies the max of a stat and skill(s). Oh and your name.

Now your finnaly in the game. You start at the dragon head village which is at the north center (ish, a bit to the east) of the world map. In the village theres a blacksmith that sells weapons and heavy armor, an inn that sells food, a supplier that sells potions, bags, poison cloth, and other misc. items. The first thing you'll probably want to do is go fight something! Theres a cave to the west of the town you started in, just run to the mountain on your minimap. Once enter the small cave you'll want to go forward and go up the first time you get and you'll find a ratman! Slay it! Well thats pretty much where this minor guide ends. If you travel in further you'll find more difficult mobs or you can run around outside and find some deer/wolves to kill as well, great for collecting food that is qutie expensive in the beginning. The main town if you want to find more types of merchants is Brimstone which is at the very center of the map, if you follow the roads and signs you'll most likely be easy to find. Try to explore when you can and find more types of mobs to fight each will have there own difficulty and loot.

Small description of common skills:

Weapon skills:

Archery - Low damage, fast attack speed, shoots mobs from 4-8 spaces away.

Whips/flails - low-moderate damage, average attack speed, attacks mobs from up to 2 spaces away.

Swords - Average attack speed and damage.

Maces - Slow attack speed average damage, cuts through armor a bit better than swords.

Axes - High damage average attack speed, greatly cuts through armored foes.

Healing Skills:

Rejuvenation - Fastest healing skill. Increases regeneration rate and how much health you regain a tick. Consumes mana per health regen. Can only be used after being out of combat for 5ish seconds.

Druidy - Regeneration spell. Heals over time at the cost of regeants and mana, a bit better than healing skill of same level.

Healing - Consumes a healing salve each use, like regeneration but doesn't consume mana and for not as much health regen.

Misc skills:

Poisoning - Depending on poison skill how often the poison procs off your weapon onto your target and for how much damage.

Magic resist - Increases chance to resist and how much magical damage reduced when you do resist. Highly based off your faith, meditation knowledge and intelligence stats.

Shields - This skill is required for shields to actually take effect when equipped.

Small hotkey guide:

Oh and a quick hot key guide, to use skills like rejuvinate and spells click on options at the top right then click on the keypad icon and there you can set up hotkeys. I highly recommend you set up a open door hotkey as well, it makes life a lot easier.
