Title: Back to the grind..

I've been playing for a few days now. I'm really enjoying it, but I have a few problems with it.

The main problem is the leveling system. It's a grind. Yes, in most MMORPGs you have to grind. But my problem with the grind in this game is how you don't need to do anything. I found that I could go to a monster spawn point and walk away from my computer for 6 hours and come back to my character still leveling up. I'm pretty sure there's no way to level up enough with the limited quests in the game. I'm not asking that you completely change this system of leveling. I'm asking that you add more ways to level. The game should reward the player who doesn't just auto-grind. Here is some of my ideas...

Bosses. There can be bosses in dungeons and throughout the world that roam around. The bosses can even attack towns. They would be extremely tough, so you would have to get a group of people to take it down. Everyone that takes part in killing it gets 6x the amount of xp you would get of a normal monster. It would also drop rare items that you can only get from bosses. This would make people want to group up and hunt for bosses together.

Exploring. This is a great way for people who like to travel around in the game to gain xp. There can be landmarks all over the world that people can find. Once you click it, depending on how rare that landmark was, you will get a certain amount of xp. The landmarks could be light posts. There would be a few categories of light posts separated by the color of light they have. Yellow would give minor xp, orange would give medium xp, red would give high xp, and purple would be super rare and give an extremely high amount of xp.

Random events. The can happen at any time to anyone. A character would appear in front of you. The random event can give you a reward, attack you, give a rare quest, give a random amount of xp, ask you a question and if you give the wrong answer you will be teleported to a random place in the world, etc.

So these are just a few of my ideas for the game. I apologize if I seemed to just throw my opinion at you. I have really high hopes for the game and I want it to succeed! smiley

enlightened Bosses, Exploring, Random Events.  Very Good Idea enlightened

enlightened However, some players love grinding to get to level 36 that might take 8 hours or more.  I personally love it! enlightened

enlightened Grinding to get to another level makes me feel I patiently sweated it out and earned it! enlightened

enlightened My earned reward allows me more skill points to raise my stats.  Worth it in every way because you either want it bad enough or you'll not try and level for more points.  This separates the little dogs from the big dogs enlightened

A GAME CALLED OBERIN.COM uses a secretive "success" algorith to determine if you get experience or not.  This is the only game that Chris The Avatar might be able to contact the creator for assistiance in making the leveling system harder if that is what you want.  Personally, once you start to reach over level 30: leveling in this game gets very difficult and makes me take breaks from grinding and find more meaningful things to do like: Helping other players, finding quests to complete, writing on the forums, creating a hand drawn picture of my future avatar I will post on the forums to represent me.

Very true, grinding your way to the next level gives you a very accomplished feeling. But taking down a boss with 8 other people seems to be a bit more rewarding than sitting in a cave for 8 hours killing zombies. I'm not against grinding at all,  the big dogs just need to get out every once in a while.  :)

I welcome your opinions, and I generally listen to them, it does take time to implement new systems like this, which is not a bad thing but just requires patience. Quests will become a more critical experience hub in the near future, and I am thinking up ideas for the bosses in the game.

It has been suggested by the other game master to have bosses spawn after defeating so many regular spawns, I like this idea. I also have one quest laid out that involves a super boss. I understand that some people like  unattended "grinding" I try to control it with hunger and I am hoping once the game is in full scale production pks will also dissuade so much macroing and if we go that route with the bosses then it will also become harder to grind unattendedly.

Sounds good, Chris! By the way, I've been needing to ask you something. I was talking with Flayer in-game today, he said you guys don't have many people working on the game at the moment. Which is why it takes awhile to get new content out.  I'm a student at Cal Arts and I'd be willing to help out if needed. I specialise in concept art and film, I also have some experience in making games. Since I do art/film, I do a lot of writing. So I'd also be able to help out with writing the stories for quests, characters, etc.

I can do concept art, quest/story writing, video advertisements, and I can also create in-game content if I'd be able to get a hang of the program you use.
